The Ministry of Railways has also removed blankets and curtains from AC coaches of trains to prevent the spread of COVID-19 a couple of days back. In order to discourage unnecessary travel and to avert the vulnerable category of senior citizens from undertaking unnecessary travel, concessional booking of all tickets excluding patients, students and divyangjan of both reserved & unreserved category is suspended from today onwards, 20 March 2020.

To discourage nonessential travel and overcrowding in trains, around 155 pairs of trains are cancelled till 31 March 2020. The Ministry of Railways ensured that alternate trains are available for the passengers and no passengers remain stranded due to cancellation of trains. Along with this full refund would be given to the passengers whose trains have been cancelled. Here is the list of trains that have been cancelled till 31 March.

Passengers have been issued advisories to avoid non-essential train journeys. Also, during the journey if a passenger feels that he or she is having fever then they can immediately contact Railway Staff for medical assistance.

In addition to this, railways have also facilitated the return of students stranded in Northern part of country due to closure of educational institutions to their homes in Southern, Northern-Eastern and Eastern parts of India.

To avoid crowding at railway stations, the Ministry of Railways has raised the price of platform tickets from Rs 10 to Rs 50.

To create awareness of the COVID-19 virus among people, regular announcements are being done at railway stations and trains to sensitize the public about the deadly COVID-19 virus.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has also shared mantras to tackle the ongoing pandemic (COVID-19). He has urged all the Indians to observe “Janta Curfew” on March 22 (Sunday) from 7 AM to 9 PM (14 hours). In order to express the gratitude towards the lakhs of people working at airports, hospitals and performing duties related to transportation & sanitation during the coronavirus outbreak, PM Narendra Modi has appealed all the citizens to stand on doors, balconies, windows of their homes at 5 PM on Sunday for five minutes and clap for the ones who are working incessantly during these tough times.
