Travelling by train gives us unlimited memories, and those journeys happening in an AC 1st coach is just cherry on top. But, did you know that there are two types of seating arrangements in the AC 1st coach? Yes, you heard it right! The 1st-AC compartment consists of CABIN and COUPE. Let us give you a better idea about the coach compartment and seating types.

AC 1st Coach

It is the most expensive and luxurious class on Indian Railways. The fare of seats in this coach is almost at par with airfares. There are eight cabins (including four or five coupes) in the full AC first class coach and three cabins (including one coupe) in the half AC first class coach. 

The passengers travelling in this coach are accompanied by an attendant, and bedding is included in the fare. This air-conditioned coach, present only on popular routes, can carry 18-24 (full coach) or 10 passengers (half coach).

Passengers have the facility to lock each compartment from inside. Also, in the AC 1st class coaches, there are no upper or lower berths on the sides, making more space available for passengers to reach their respective cabins.

Booking a First Class AC Ticket

Upon booking a First Class AC ticket, you will only receive the reservation status. To get the coupe, passengers need to make a choice of Coupe while booking online or make a request verbally or in writing on the reservation form, to consider it as first preference. And, if you’re booking the 1st AC tickets with Trainman, all you need to do is choose your seat preference as Coupe at the passenger selection seat.

However, if there is any VIP movement, their PNR gets priority for COUPE instead of any GN quota passenger.

Cabin

In 1st AC coaches, the compartments 4 berths (2 Upper and 2 Lower) are called cabins. In a full 1st AC coach, there are usually 4 cabins, whereas, in half 1st AC coach, there are 2 cabins. Passengers travelling in the AC first class can lock their cabins from inside, and make their journey more comfortable and secure. It is best for a family of 3 or 4 people travelling together.

Coupe

The Indian Railways always put the comfort of their passengers as their priority. If two people are travelling together in the 1st AC class can choose the Coupe Compartment all for themselves. The Coupe compartments have 2 berths (1 lower + 1 upper). The Coupe is best for couples or people travelling with any special arrangements.
