Indian Railways has decided to run 35 unreserved mail/express special trains from February 22, 2021. This is the first set of unreserved trains during the pandemic that will start running from February 22 onwards. The date of booking on these trains is yet to be declared. According to Indian Railways, more than 65 percent of trains are back on track.
Some of the new trains that will be operational from February 22 are train no. 04201 Varanasi Partapgarh Express Special will leave from its source station Varanasi (BSB) at 06:00 and will reach Partapgarh (PBH) at 09:15 on the same day. Another train no. 04501 Saharanpur Una Himachal Express Special will leave from its source station Saharanpur (SRE) at 06:30 and will reach Una Himachal (UHL) at 12:15 on the same day. Likewise train no. 04213 Lucknow Kanpur Central Express Special will leave from its source station Lucknow (LKO) at 07:05 and will reach Kanpur Central (CNB) at 09:00 on the same day. Indian railways had suspended all passenger trains services due to the imposition of a nationwide lockdown from 25 March. However it resumed services in a staggered manner with shramik special trains to help stranded migrant workers reach their home states from 1 May. After that railway board started fully air-conditioned rajdhani-like 30 COVID-19 special trains, 200 special trains and 80 new special trains.
