What is the trends feature?
The trends feature is a tool that shows you the previous results of similar tickets as per the current status. The trends feature helps you to understand the confirmation chances of your ticket by comparing it with the past tickets that had the same initial waiting number, days before journey, and journey date/day as yours. You can access the trends feature by clicking on your desired train for your journey. Other than that, you can also see the trends after entering your PNR number on the Trainman website or app and clicking on the "Trends" button.
How does the trends feature work?
The trends feature works by using data analytics and machine learning techniques to find and display the relevant historical data like your ticket. It considers the following factors to determine the similarity of the ticekt status:
- Initial waiting number: This is the number that is assigned to your ticket when you book it. It indicates the number of passengers who have booked before you for the same journey. For example, if your ticket has a waiting status of "GNWL 10/WL 5", then 10 is your initial waiting number. This number does not change even if there are cancellations by other passengers.
- Days before journey: This is the number of days between the date of booking and the date of journey. For example, if you book your ticket on 1st January and your journey date is 10th January, then your days before journey is 9. This factor affects the confirmation chances of your ticket, as the earlier you book, the higher are the chances of getting a confirmed seat.
- Journey date/day: This is the date and day of your journey. For example, if your journey date is 10th January and it is a Sunday, then your journey date/day is 10/01/2024 (Sunday). This factor also affects the confirmation chances of your ticket, as some days of the week or some dates of the month may have more or less demand for train travel.
The trends feature shows you a table of previous ticket status that match these three factors with your ticket. The table has four columns: Initial WL, Days Before Journey, Journey Date/Day, and Final Status. The final status indicates whether the ticket was confirmed, waitlisted, or RAC at the time of chart preparation. The table also shows you the percentage of tickets that got confirmed, waitlisted, or RAC in each row.
How to use the trends feature to plan your train travel better?
The trends feature can help you to plan your train travel better by giving you an idea of the confirmation chances of your ticket and the best time to book your ticket. Here are some tips on how to use the trends feature effectively:
- Check the trends feature before you book your ticket. This will give you a baseline of the confirmation chances of your ticket based on the historical data. You can also compare the trends of different trains or different classes to choose the best option for your journey.
- Check the trends feature regularly until your journey date. This will help you to monitor the changes in the confirmation chances of your ticket and the demand for train travel.
- Check the trends feature before the chart preparation. This will give you the final confirmation chances of your ticket based on the latest data. You can also see if there are any alternative options available for your journey, such as tatkal booking, premium tatkal booking, or vikalp scheme.
The trends feature is a useful tool that can help you to plan your train travel better by giving you an insight into the confirmation scenario of your journey. However, it is important to remember that the trends feature is based on historical data and does not guarantee the confirmation of your ticket.
