Hey trainman users, we have constantly worked towards improving your journey experience with our Trip Assurance feature. As you already know, the Trainman's Trip Assurance feature is where you can get a free flight ticket if your ticket remains waitlisted after chart preparation.
As part of an enhanced travelling experience for our users, we have launched a 3X Refund on train tickets. In this blog, we will guide you for using this feature.
Get 3X Refund on Trainman
All trainman users can avail a 3-times the refund of train ticket fare in their bank account if the ticket remains waitlisted after the chart preparation. To get this benefit, users must opt for Trip Assurance while train ticket booking. Still confused? Let us understand with an example
Scenario 1 – Without Trip Assurance
- Journey route - Delhi to Lucknow
- Train No. - 12230 | LUCKNOW MAIL
- Travel Class – AC – 3 Tier
- Passengers – 3
- Ticket fare – 2505.40
- Ticket status after chart preparation – Waitlisted
Cancellation Charge - Ticket fare - INR60(+GST, if applicable) /passenger
Total Refund - INR2505 - INR210 = INR2295
In this case, your tickets will automatically get cancelled and you will get a refund after deduction of the cancellation charges as per rules. This amount in this case will be a lumpsum of ~ INR210, and you will get a refund of INR2295. More than the cancellation, being unable to complete the trip remains the biggest setback.
Now, let’s see if you had opted for Trip Assurance for this journey, then what would have happened.
Scenario 2 – Ticket Booked with Trip Assurance
- Journey route - Delhi to Lucknow
- Train No. - 12230 | LUCKNOW MAIL
- Travel Class – AC – 3 Tier
- Passengers – 3
- Trip Assurance Fee - 480
- Ticket fare – 2505
- Total Amount – 2985.40
- Ticket status after Chart Preparation - Waitlisted
Cancellation Charge - Ticket fare - INR60(+GST, if applicable) /passenger
In this case, since you have opted for Trip Assurance while booking the ticket, you will be notified if your ticket remains waitlisted after chart preparation. And, in the Trainman app you will be asked to fill up your UPI ID to get the refund.
With a 3X refund of Trip Assurance, you will get the ticket base fare along with an additional 2 times the base fare in case your ticket remains waitlisted after the chart preparation. The refund will be processed within 7-10 business days.
So, earlier you were getting INR2295 as refund, but with Trip Assurance you will get the base fare + 2 times the base fare which will be a total refund of INR2295 + INR5010 = INR7305 in your bank account.
The 3X refund amount of what you paid while booking tickets with us can be utilized in booking other means of transportation for your journey. We make sure that your journey gets completed.

And here is the best part, in case your ticket gets confirmed and you complete your journey, then the Trip Assurance fee will be refunded as TM Cash in your TM wallet. This amount can be used for subsequent train ticket bookings.
