How many times (while travelling in a train) have you hoped that if only there were some representative from railways who could address all our issue/s while on board? It is no more a dream now and Railways is all set to introduce a “Train Captain” in trains, who would be a single point of contact for all sorts of passenger’s assistance, guidance and grievance.
Currently the service is introduced in couple of southern railway trains only. With this new development, a train captain would be present during the journey whose names will be displayed in reservation charts in all coaches. In coming days, plans are being made to send details of each train captain of the day to the passengers boarding the train via SMS. Passengers can also get details of their train captain via Railways helpline number 138.
This train captain will ensure passenger amenities like availability of water, cleanliness of coaches, proper functioning of fans, lights and charging points etc. For now, this facility has been introduced in a couple of Southern Railway trains like Nilgiri Express train (12671/72) , Chennai Mail (12624) , TVC Chennai Exp (12696/95).
With such services on board, we are hopeful that train journeys would be more convenient and hassle free and that Railway would extend this service in other railway divisions too very soon.
