As Railways is on a spree to turn profitable, it is coming up with new and fresh ideas not just to generate revenues but keeping passengers and their ease in mind at every step. Recently, Railways have announced Rs. 2000 crore revenue plans under which they would come up with plans to generate revenue from different non tariff sources. One such idea is to install ATM’s at various locations at major railway stations across India.
Not only this, the non fare revenue policy soon to be launched by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will offer various schemes for revenue yielding activities like train branding, allowing advertisements on roads leading to stations, areas along tracks, foot over bridges and level crossing gates along with setting up of ATM machines at end platforms. So soon you would be boarding a “pepsi rajdhani” or a “coke shatabdi”! This policy would also offer out of home advertising and permit monetisation of railway assets through ad route. As you can see in below image train is branded with "Kurkure" advertisement.
Currently, Railways generate only 5% of its total revenue from non tariff sources. With these non fare revenue policies, railways would be able to generate much more revenue and will also betterify users and passengers' experience.
