Indian Railways have waived off the insurance amount while booking tickets. There was an optional premium cover of 92 paise while you booked your train ticket through IRCTC website. Well the Railway government has waived off this insurance amount giving a relief to the passengers. To encourage online booking of tickets and to encourage cashless transactions, government has taken this step.
The facility announced in Railway budget 2016-2017 this year, allows a passenger to get a premium cover of upto 10 Lakhs on booking train ticket through their website. One is prompted to fill in nomination details after the booking is made. Do fill out that nomination form, in order to avail amount hassle free, as in many cases due to the lack of nominee details people entitled for this amount does not get the compensation. Passengers with confirmed or RAC status would be covered under this free insurance policy however waiting passengers will not be covered. According to railway officials, around 14 Lakh passengers book railway tickets on a daily basis --out of which 58 % tickets are booked online.
