You might have heard the saying there is India in everybody and everybody makes India. Ok I just made it up but it goes very well for each and every Indian. One would experience this saying more especially during festive season. During every festive season there is celebration around the country irrespective of your religion and community. With Navratra and Durga Pooja around, one can be seen dancing to the tunes of Garba and doing pooja of the mighty goddess Durga. There are many fascinating rituals that are being followed during these 10 days time which cannot be seen during any other festival. Here are some of them:

Thanks to Sanjay Leela Bhansali who caught attention to this ritual and showed it in the movie Devdas. The clay used to prepare Maa Durga idol base is brought from the backyard of a sex worker's house.

A major community of Hindu religion offer prayers to Maa Durga and on the first day of Navratra they sow wheat kernels on a mud vessel.

Various Hindu households prepare food for girls and invite them to their home on eighth or ninth day of pooja. They make halwa poori and chana which is called Prasad and serve it to girls and everyone in their vicinity.

One diya is lit beside Maa Durga idol/photo which glows continuously for Nine days.

Dandiya is played all around the country during Navratra where men & women wear lots of colorful clothes and perform dandiya or garba in front of Maa Durga Idol.

Bengali women wear white sari having wide red borders and dance with smoke chimney in hand. They also put sindoor on each other’s forehead during durga pooja.

There are Aarti, Bhajans, dhol sounds and dandiya across various pandals that are set by many people at different places in India.

In south India and especially Mysore Navratri is celebrated in form of Dasara during which elaborate processions are held displaying state swords, weapons, horses, elephants and the king of Mysore takes part in this procession along with Hindu Godess Chamunda Devi. This procession marks the victory of good over evil.
