Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp Ltd (IRCTC) is reintroducing its Ramayana Express train which is a special tourist train that covers the sites associated with Lord Rama. Seeing the successful run of a similar train that was introduced last year equipped with only sleeper class coaches, Indian Railways plans to start it again in 2020. This year, the tour is going to be 16 nights / 17 days from 28 March to 13 April 2020.
It will be covering key destinations such as Ayodhya, Sitamdhi, Janakpur, Varanasi, Prayag, Chitrakoot, Nasik, Hampi, Kanchipuram, Rameshwaram. Shri Ramayana Express will give its onboard passengers an insight of Lord Rama's life. The special tourist train would also have an add on itinerary to cover the Ramayana Yatra of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan leg of journey would be of 03 nights / 04 days including places like Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo and Negombo. Seeing the “Navratri” festival (25 Mar- 03 Apr), passengers aboard would be served food cooked without onion and garlic (Jain food). Fasting food will also be made for the tourists like Sabudana Khichdi, fruits, curd and potato chat. Some of the prominent sites which would be covered in this yatra are Ram Janmbhoomi and Hanuman Garhi at Ayodhya, Bharat Mandir at Nandigram, Sita Mata Mandir at Sitamarhi (Bihar), and Janakpur (Nepal), Tulsi Manas Mandir and Sankat Mochan Mandir at Varanasi, Sita Samahit Sthal at Sitamarhi (UP), Triveni Sangam, Hanuman Mandir and Bharadwaj Ashram at Prayag, Shringi Rishi Mandir at Shringverpur, Ramghat and Sati Anusuiya Mandir at Chitrakoot, Panchvati at Nasik, Anjanadri Hill and Hanuman Janm Sthal at Hampi and Jyotirlinga Shiva Mandir at Rameshwaram.
The ticket price of the Shri Ramayan express special tourist train is priced at Rs 26,775 and Rs 16,065 per person for third ac and sleeper class respectively. In order to book the tickets on the tourist train, follow the steps given below.

Then, click on “Tourist Train” option.
Navigate to the “Shri Ramayana Yatra” tour package and click on “book” option.
Choose the starting date of the tour, boarding station, deboarding station and the class in which you wish to travel.
Login with the IRCTC username & password and proceed with the booking.
According to the itinerary, the tour package includes journey in 3A or sleeper class train, accommodation in non-ac dormitories/ hall for sleeper class booked tourist & non-ac hotels for 3A class, non-ac road transfers by buses, tour escort and security staff. Travellers can also upgrade the accommodation to any category of hotels at the destination paying its extra cost subject to the availability. Passengers onboard are going to be provided 20-litre packaged drinking water per person everyday. However the package costs do not include personal use items, laundry services, medicines, entrance fee for monuments and temples.
To cancel the ticket, the user has to log into their IRCTC account and then select the tour package. As per the cancellation rules, If a passenger cancels a ticket 15 days prior to the date of tour then Rs 250 per passenger is deducted. If a ticket is cancelled between 8 to 14 days before the date of journey, 25 percent of the total package cost is deducted. In case, a ticket is cancelled between 4 to 7 days before the commencement of tour, 50 percent of the total package cost is deducted. If a ticket is cancelled 4 days prior to the tour date then no refund is granted.
