To tackle the heavy passenger rush in the upcoming festive season, Indian Railways has announced 39 pairs (78 trains) of special trains that will further enhance the easy movement of travellers across various states. Most of the trains belong to the category of AC Express, Duronto, Rajdhani and Shatabdi. The date of operation of these trains is yet to be declared.
These services will be introduced as special services from an early convenient date. Here is the complete list of more special trains that are expected to start soon:
Meanwhile Indian Railways is also introducing a few special trains to clear extra rush. The special trains that will be operational from October 12 are train no. 03071 Howrah Jamalpur COVID 19 Special will leave from its source station Howrah (HWH) at 21:35 and will reach Jamalpur (JMP) at 07:25 on the next day. It will run daily starting from October 12. Another train no. 03413 Farakka Covid 19 Special (via Sultanpur) will leave from its source station Malda Town (MLDT) at 19:10 and will reach Old Delhi (DLI) at 04:50 on the third day. It will run on every Monday, Thursday and Saturday starting from October 12. Likewise train no. 03483 Farakka Covid 19 Special (via Faizabad) will leave from its source station Malda Town (MLDT) at 19:10 and will reach Old Delhi (DLI) at 04:50 on the third day. It will run on every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday starting from October 13.
Along with this, IRCTC is all set to restart the operation of Tejas Express trains to cater to the needs of growing passenger demand. The Lucknow-New Delhi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express trains were suspended from 19 March due to the coronavirus pandemic. All the four trains (2 pairs) i.e. 82901 Mumbai Central Ahmedabad IRCTC Tejas Express, 82902 Ahmedabad Mumbai Central IRCTC Tejas Express, 82501 Lucknow Jn. New Delhi IRCTC Tejas Express and 82502 New Delhi Lucknow Jn. IRCTC Tejas Express are expected to restart their operations from October 17.
Bookings in the Tejas trains are expected to start soon. Tejas Express is India’s first series of private trains and it runs between two routes as of now: New Delhi to Lucknow and Mumbai to Ahmedabad. All staff members and passengers are mandated to follow social distancing and wear masks when inside the train.
IRCTC started the operation of its first private train 82501/02 Lucknow Jn. New Delhi IRCTC Tejas Express on 4 October 2019 while the 82901/02 Mumbai Central Ahmedabad IRCTC Tejas Express hit the tracks on 19 January 2020.
