As the fight against coronavirus still goes on, there is a piece of good news for all the people across the country. With the recovery of the COVID-19 patients and no new cases reported so far, four states in India Goa, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh become COVID-19 free. According to the Health Ministry data, Goa had reported seven coronavirus cases but now all of them have been cured and discharged from hospital.
Manipur became the second state after Goa to become coronavirus free after the last patient was discharged on April 21 (Tuesday). Similarly, Arunachal Pradesh becomes a coronavirus free state after a 31-year old patient got discharged from the hospital on April 24 (Friday).
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb confirmed that the second and last COVID-19 patient was released from the hospital on April 25 (Saturday) making it a COVID-19 free state. On a positive note, another north-eastern state Sikkim has not reported any COVID-19 case so far. The Sikkim government is planning to bring back thousands of stranded people, including students and patients from outside the state once the lockdown is lifted.
If we see the number of COVID-19 tests done in Goa, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim then it is 406, 185, 274, 206 and 48 respectively. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases that have been reported in Goa, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are seven (7), two (2), two (2), one (1) and zero (0). If we compare the total number of COVID-19 tests with the total population of each state then it is negligible. Mass-testing needs to be done in India as then only more number of coronavirus cases would come into notice.
The coronavirus case count has crossed 3 million globally even as several parts of the world including India, continue to be under lockdown to contain the pandemic. The total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to about 28196 with 887 deaths. Maharashtra is the worst affected state with 8068 active cases and 342 deaths. The other states that have seen the most number of coronavirus cases are Gujarat (3301), Delhi (2918), Rajasthan (2221), Madhya Pradesh (2090), Tamil Nadu (1885), Uttar Pradesh (1873), Andhra Pradesh (1177) and Telangana (1001).
