In a new development by Railways, from April 01, 2017 Aadhaar Card would be made compulsory to avail senior citizen concessions in Railway tickets. This would be applicable for both e-tickets and counter tickets.
Railway Ministry has decided to introduce this aadhar based ticketing system in 2 phases. During phase 1, Aadhaar verification for getting concessional discounts in railway tickets would be done on voluntary basis and from April 01, 2017 it would be made mandatory. This is in lieu to getting Aadhaar based ticketing system compulsory for each category of passengers in coming times.
The minimum age for concession in railway tickets is 58 Years for females and 60 Years for males. The element of concession is 50% for senior citizen females and 40% for senior citizen males.
The advance verification of senior citizens through Aadhaar Card has already been started from December 01, 2016 whereby these passengers are notified to submit their Aadhar card details either online on IRCTC website or through reservation counters. The step has been taken in order to get transparency in ticketing process for senior citizens and to prevent any misuse of such facility.
One can easily submit their Aadhaar card info on IRCTC website. For this they need to log into their IRCTC account using their account Id and Password. Once logged in, click on the “Master List” on “MY Profile” menu on top of the screen. Next you need to add details like Name, Gender, Date of Birth, ID card Number etc. After adding these details, passenger would be verified and authenticated for concession.
