The Indian Railways has announced a major cut in the ticket prices for some trains to the levels before the COVID-19 pandemic. This move will help the railway passengers who had to pay higher fares after the pandemic. The Indian Railways has brought back the Second Class Ordinary Fares on the trains that used to be called ‘Passenger Trains’.
These trains are now called ‘Express Specials‘ or ‘MEMU/DEMU Express‘ Trains. This decision is different from the situation after the lockdown where passengers had to pay express fares even for passenger train travel.
The Indian Railways has reduced the Ordinary Class fares by around 50% on all the MEMU trains and the trains that have numbers starting with ‘Zero’. This fare reduction affects all the trains that were Passenger Trains before, which are now running as ‘Express Special’ or MEMU trains in the country.
Ticket prices increased during Covid-19
The railways had hiked the fares for passengers and short-distance trains to prevent people from traveling unnecessarily and only when it is most essential. These fares are the same as the unreserved price of mail/express trains for the same distance.
