As people gear up to head out for their summer holidays, Indian Railways has made a noteworthy announcement to help ease the travel woes of passengers during the peak season. Indian Railways has announced 217 special trains, making a total of 4010 trips this year, in order to proactively manage the extra rush of passengers and provide convenience to railway travelers.
Indian Railways has revealed that the special trains will connect popular destinations across India, providing a convenient mode of transportation for passengers traveling to tourist hotspots. This service will be exclusively available during the summer months.
As per the official statement released by Indian Railways, the South Western Railway division will run 69 special trains, covering stations in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana. The South Central division has plans to operate 48 such trains, while the Western and Southern Railway Zones will run 40 and 20 special trains, respectively.
Other than that, the Central and East Central Railway zones will operate 10 special trains each, while the Eastern Central Railway zone, covering Bihar, will run 10 special trains. The Eastern Railway zone will have four special trains running on its route, making a total of 296 trips. The North Western Railway zone has revealed that it will operate 16 special summer trains, while the Northern Railway zone has not been assigned any such trains.
However, Indian Railways has not given out any further information regarding the number, routes, and dates of these special trains except for the zones in which they will operate.
The Railway Ministry has reassured the public that it is keeping a vigilant eye on any malpractices such as cornering of seats, over-charging, and touting activity, and is strictly monitoring and taking action against them.
