India’s longest rail road bridge that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on December 25 this year is the pride of the nation. The project was started in the year 1997 when former Prime Minister H.D.Deve Goda laid its foundation stone on January 22 that year. Since then the completion of this project has been a dream for every government in action. However finally this year it was flagged of a green signal and is now open for the public transport and citizens.

The Bogibeel bridge is an important link that starts at Dibrugarh and ends at Dhemaji district of Assam. With the construction of this bridge, several bottlenecks with some districts of Arunachal Pradesh has been removed and is likely to play an important role in defence movement along the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh.

This nearly 5 KM long bridge is the only welded bridge in India that has been built in accordance with the European standards and codes. Built on the mighty Brahmaputra river this project was long pending and due to the innate delay the cost of this bridge escalated to 85% to Rs. 5960 Cr from sanctioned cost of Rs. 3230 Crores. It has two-line railway track on lower deck while three-lane road on upper deck.

With the construction of this bridge, the city of Dibrugarh is now well connected with the district of Dhemaji. As all the major hospitals, colleges and airport is located in Dibrugarh which is the third largest city of North -East, this bridge will be a boon for all the neighbouring cities and districts.
