With more and more people advancing towards digital space, there is an Internet age that has arrived. You may see people using WhatsApp, Facebook, reading Blog or any news article online or children seeing their favorite cartoon channel or an elderly person listening to bhakti songs anywhere, anyplace and anytime. All this is possible with the boom of Internet Age that has taken over the generations. Indian Railways also have got into the ride.
This project was announced by Google CEO Sundar Pichai in September 2015, during our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in California. Stating that Google is committed to working with Indian Railways and Railtel to deliver high-speed WiFi network that will be available to 10 million Indians by the end of the year, covering 100 of the busiest train stations in India, it said the project will be eventually rolled out to cover 400 railway stations across India by the year 2019.
The so called project Railtel-Google free high-speed public WiFi service is currently available at Mumbai Central, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Ranchi, Raipur, Vijayawada, Kacheguda, Ernakulum Junction, Vishakhapatnam, Jaipur, Patna, Guwahati, Ujjain and Allahabad. Google will also extend the project in Maharashtra to Dadar, Bandra Terminus , Churchgate, Thane, Kalyan, Panvel, Vashi, Kurla, Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, Borivali and a few others suburban stations in Mumbai.
Users can follow instructions on their mobiles to avail the high-speed wi-fi for the first 60 minutes after which the speed will drop to let new users get a proper bandwidth!
Steps to connect to free Google RailWire WiFi at Railway Stations:
Open your Wifi settings to find available networks.
Select RailWire network and tap on it
Open any web browser and type railwire.co.in on the address bar
Once you enter, you will be directed to the page where you will be asked your phone number
Enter your phone number
You will receive an SMS on your mobile. There will be a unique OTP, which is the password to connect to the Railwire network
Go to login page and enter the OTP in place of password
You would be connected to the RailWire network which you can access for 60 minutes
For usage beyond 60 minutes, speed will automatically reduce
