Government and authorities of Kanpur and Patna have come together to help victims of ill fated accident happened on Sunday at around 3 AM in the morning near Pukharayan district of Kanpur. Due to the derailment of the train (19313 | Indore-Patna Express) massive accident took place taking lives of around 150 people and leaving 200 injured.
Authorities have asked several banks to depute a business correspondent at various hospitals where injured and accident victims have been admitted to help them and their families in exchanging currencies. Several temporary counters and point-of-sale (POS) machines have also been placed near Patna railway station and near the hospitals to help accident victims and their family members to withdraw cash (limited to Rs 2000) and in special cases even more after they are authorized by district administration. Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu have also announced ex gratia amount of 3.5 Lakh to be given to the families of accident victims.
Reports suggest that this is one of the worst accidents to have happened in recent past. Around 14 coaches were derailed and two coaches S1 and S2 crammed into each other trapping many people. The train (19313) had 23 coaches, including 12 sleeper coaches, three general seating coaches, four AC3, one AC1 and two SLR (seating-cum-luggage) rakes.
